How to Get a Passing Score on the GED Test

The general education development (GED) is offered only to individuals who did not graduate from high school. The GED covers reading, writing, math, social studies, science and writing. Proper preparation for the GED test helps ensure that you earn a passing score. Once you pass the GED test you will receive your GED certificate, which is accepted as the equivalent of a high school diploma.

      Take free GED classes. Contact your state department of education, local adult education centers or local community colleges. Each of these institutions will have information on the availability of free GED classes. There are also free GED classes offered online. These classes provide instruction and testing on the subjects covered on the GED test.

      Watch GED programs on PBS. Most PBS stations broadcast GED tutorial programs called GED Connection. Find out if your local PBS station airs the program.       Take the official GED practice exam. The exam familiarizes you with the type of questions that you will encounter on the actual test and assesses your strengths and weakness. It gives you feedback that will help you pass the GED test. You can take the test online at gedpractice.com.

      Obtain copies of the Keys to GED Success books. There are five books in this series, with each book focusing on one of the five subjects covered on the GED test. The books help improve your test-taking skills and increase your chances of passing the test.
