Historically Black Colleges and Universities - HBCUs - and Predominantly White Institutions -PWIs- have different histories and serve slightly different student populations, but they all serve as educational institutions of higher learning.
For example, Spelman College is an all-women’s HBCU located in Atlanta, GA, while Morehouse College is an all-men's HBCU also in Atlanta. In addition, Spelman and Morehouse are part of the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUC), which is a consortium of several historically Black colleges located near each other in Atlanta, Georgia.
Because of the proximity and partnership of these institutions, students enrolled in one of the AUC institutions may have the opportunity to take courses at one or more of the AUC institutions.
