Alpha Phi Fundraising Ideas

Fundraising efforts to support a philanthropic organization are an integral and fulfilling component of sorority life. The Alpha Phi sorority supports women's cardiac care as its principal philanthropic concentration, but the sorority's charitable work has been known to include other worthy causes that vary by chapter. Regardless of the end destination of your fundraiser's earnings, focus your themes and strategies on a combination of elements pertinent both to Alpha Phi and your university.
  1. Alpha Phi-esta

    • Use your sorority's name to create a play on words that should garner attention from your university and the surrounding community. Host a Mexican-style fiesta around Cinco de Mayo to end the semester's fundraising efforts on a high note. Charge an admission fee for guests to attend the event; include food and activities to entice people to purchase tickets. Get together as a house to prepare enough Mexican food for a crowd. Simple, inexpensive dishes to consider include quesadillas, burritos and tacos. To increase participation and keep sorority spending low, find out which departments or groups focus on Mexican or Latin American studies. If you find any promising leads, solicit volunteers to help out at the fiesta. For instance, ask the dance department to perform a traditional folk number during the event, or ask the sociology department to give a presentation on a subject pertaining to Latin American culture.

    King of Hearts Competition

    • To support women's heart care, sponsor a male beauty pageant on your campus. Encourage fraternities, sports teams and other extracurricular groups to nominate a well-rounded male contestant to participate in the pageant. Feature several categories that you might see in a real beauty pageant, such as a question and answer round, a talent round and even a swimsuit round. Ask well-known figures on campus to judge the event; once the scores have been determined, award the winning man with a crown, sash and bouquet. Charge an entry fee for each participating organization, and collect a small admission fee for students who wish to come watch the spectacle.

    Hoops for Hearts

    • This fundraiser uses your sorority's focus on heart care as a part of its theme, and it can be conducted in a variety of ways depending on what you think will work best for your individual campus. If your university has a popular basketball team, find out about collaborating during a game to raise money for your charity. For instance, give fans the opportunity to add a dollar to the price of admission to go towards women's heart care initiatives, or sponsor a halftime shootout in which audience members may pay a dollar to shoot a free-throw. Another option is to host a four-on-four basketball tournament in which each team will be charged an admission fee; solicit local businesses to donate prizes for the winning teams.

    Dance Phi-ver

    • Host a campus-wide dance competition for your next fundraiser. Encourage students to form dance teams and perform an original choreography for the event. Charge each team a reasonable sum to participate, ranging $5 to $10 per member. Ask professors and other campus staff to act as guest judges to determine a winner for the competition, and charge a small admission fee for students to come watch the fun and support a worthy cause.
