Eat breakfast every day. Breakfast foods are some of the best foods for college students to eat. If a student eats breakfast foods high in protein like eggs, turkey sausage or ham in the dining courts, he will be less likely to crave fast food meals later in the day. Breakfast foods that are high in protein and fiber help students stay full longer so that they can save money, time and empty calories.
Eat fruits and vegetables often in the dining court. Consider having a salad loaded with as many fresh vegetables as possible. Go light on the dressing, though. Have fruit with lunch at the dining court. Consider stocking up on some fresh fruits and vegetables in your dorm room so that when you are craving a late-night snack you don't automatically reach for potato chips.
Choose trail mix. It is one of those snacks that is delicious and perfect for a party or a get-together with friends. Consider making your own trail mix with healthy nuts, dark chocolate, pretzels and raisins instead of buying it from a store. Bring your delicious mix with you to a get-together so that you can rest assured that you will be getting a filling and nutritious snack no matter where you're hanging out.
Choose fish whenever possible. Although many types of fish can be quite expensive, tuna is a great, cheaper option that is delicious and healthy. Make your own tuna salad sandwiches with light mayo and low-calorie and whole grain bread for a delicious, cheap lunch. Many colleges offer fish in their dining courts. Instead of choosing beef or steak, opt for a salmon fillet or some other type of fish for dinner.
