How to Clean College Dorms

Going away to college and moving into a dorm is an exciting time in a teenager's life. For many teenagers, it is their first time living away from home and being on their own. Although teens may welcome the independence that comes along with dorm life, they must also embrace a new set of responsibilities, such as keeping their dorm room clean. Whether you live alone or have a roommate, there are a variety of different things you can do to clean your college dorm room.

  • Paper towels
  • All-purpose cleaner

      Pick up all trash from around the room and throw it into a trash bag.

      Place all clean clothes on hangers in the closet, or fold them and place them in drawers. Put all dirty clothes in a hamper.

      Make your bed and fluff all pillows on the bed and around the room.

      Place items you have not used for more than 12 months into a box to donate or sell.

      Dust all blinds and the outside of heating and air conditioning vents.

      Wipe down windows and mirrors with glass cleaner and paper towels and all other washable surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner and paper towels.

      Vacuum the carpets and spot-clean any stains with a carpet cleaner.

      Sweep and mop the bathroom floor.

      Clean the toilet, shower and sink using an all-purpose cleaner and bathroom brush.

      Clean out the refrigerator and throw all old and spoiled food into the trash bag.

      Empty all wastebaskets into the trash bag.

      Sprinkle some baking soda into the wastebaskets to absorb odors.

      Discard of the trash bag according to your dorm's policy.
