Try to achieve a high grade-point average. Having a high GPA allows a prospective student to rise above other applicants who have done poorly in academics. With a high enough GPA, a student may get an invitation to a Division One school and offers of financial aid.
Score well on the SAT. This is a college preparatory exam that determines your current educational aptitude. Colleges use it to weed out potential students who do not meet their academic standards. High-scoring applicants might be invited to the school ahead of others.
Play a sport and strive to excel. Division One schools are always looking for athletes to add to the roster. Even if a student athlete is not a star player, there are still positions available that need to be filled. If you are wanted on the team, you will be offered a place at that college.
