Ideas for a Cool Presentation

Some students see presentations as the bane of any academic career from middle school to high school to university. Students have to give and sit through so many presentations that everybody inevitably groans or brings a pillow when presentation day is announced. Luckily, it isn't too hard to make a presentation fun and interesting for both the audience and the presenters.
  1. Skits

    • The time-honored skit presentation can be adapted for use in any class or subject matter. Dramatize a historical event, a scene from a book or even a mathematical equation. It can be great fun to make your own costumes, props and scenery. Be sure to make your skit funny and wacky --- remember that the goal is not to be boring. If you've got a bit of technical know-how and some resources, you can even make a short movie of your skit and show that in class instead of performing it live.

    Food

    • Everybody loves tasting new foods. For presentations on geography, cultural holidays or events or historical time periods, consider cooking a delicacy from the area or time. You might consider making a vegetarian delicacy or have a vegetarian option. Also, don't make it too spicy! You want as many people to enjoy it as possible. Cultural and historical recipes may be found at your local library and on the Internet.

    Lesson

    • Involve the rest of the class in your presentation by teaching them a skill associated with the time period or culture upon which your presentation is based. For example, a presentation on the Victoria period may include a lesson on how to make toys such as a thaumatrope. If your presentation is on a different culture, consider teaching the class how to say useful phrases in the culture's language.

    Game Show

    • Split the other students up into teams and come up with some sort of "buzzer" --- a bell works well. Ask questions about the presentation subject and allow the other students to "buzz in" to answer them. Keep score among the teams and present the winner with some sort of prize --- candy or perhaps a delicacy as described in Step 2.
