How to Make a Presentation for ESL

The English as a Second Language student focuses on learning the four domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing to master the English language. Oral language is essential to communicate needs and ideas in English. Teaching students presentation skills allows the student to practice his oral English and make corrections as needed. Presentation skills are necessary in content courses such as language arts and social studies. If the ESL student is apprehensive, model correct presentation strategies and provide encouragement as well.

    • 2

Read the index cards. Select the most important information to include in the presentation. Write a topic sentence and four to five supporting details to summarize the subject.

    • 3

Practice reading the paragraph aloud to present the information without error.

    Deliver the Presentation

    • 4

Maintain straight posture and speak clearly and authoritatively on the subject. Make eye contact and glance at your notes occasionally if needed.

    • 5

Provide a visual, such as a poster to support the information in the presentation.

    • 6

Answer the group's questions at the conclusion of the presentation.

    • 7

Give each audience member a feedback form to critique your delivery. Read the responses to make improvements to your next presentation.
