A slideshow allows you to highlight the major points of your speech and also serves as an outline for you to follow. With the PowerPoint program, you can include graphics, sound and various styles of text, which will help keep your audience entertained through visual stimulation. If you do not have the Microsoft Office suite at home, you can access it at your college's computer lab or your local library.
During your oral presentation, go to various websites and discuss information on the sites that relate to your topic. Bookmark the web pages you want to reference during your speech so they are available and ready to use. Use the information on the pages to elaborate the facts you are presenting during your speech. You will likely have a time limit to present your materials, so test the Internet connection in advance to make sure the pages load within a reasonable time frame.
You can use short video clips to illustrate certain points, or you can use them periodically throughout your speech to make it more exciting. Create videos on your own, and upload the video files to your computer. Or, find short video clips on websites such as YouTube or Daily Motion. You can also embed clips into your PowerPoint presentation by choosing the slide you want to add the video to and clicking "Insert Video" under the "Insert" menu.
Bar graphs, pie charts and organizational charts allow you to compare data, show statistics and display how facts have changed over time. Poster boards and flip charts are common for displaying data to an audience. You can also use an overhead projector. Use color when creating your charts for emphasis and to make comparisons. Also, use large fonts so those sitting father back can read your charts easily.
