Brew a large pot of strong coffee. BBC News reported that Professor Jim Horne of the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University suggested: "One way to stay awake is to drink coffee intermittently." A normal pot of coffee requires one tablespoon of coffee per cup of water. Put a few extra tablespoons into your brew for an extra kick.
Refrain from eating a huge meal or indulging in sugary snacks while you work into the wee hours of the night. Professor Horne reported that these types of foods "can produce a short-term high but a longer-term, sleep-inducing lull."
Get down on the floor and do 10 push-ups, if you begin to feel yourself nod off or get a bit fuzzy in your thinking. This will keep your blood pumping, which will give you the mental acuity you need to keep slogging through the next paragraph.
Take a 15- to 20-minute nap about three times during your all-nighter, even though the naps may seem counterintuitive. These brief naps will allow you to recover and pick up your pace at an even higher level of productivity.
Ask other friends who you know will be staying up late to call you at odd hours of the night to make sure you are still awake. Give them your house keys and your permission to come to your place and thoroughly soak you if they find you sleeping on the job.
