How to Destress for Finals

The stress of finals means endless studying and worrying about good grades, tough teachers and what will happen if you don't pass. Although enduring low stress levels is good because it spurs you to study harder, high levels of stress can decrease your quality of life, according to the University of Pittsburgh. Luckily, there are things you can do to ease the worry. Just as you create a plan to study and earn good grades, lay out a series of things you will do to mitigate stress during finals.

Instructions

    • 1

Take breaks from studying. If you feel your stress levels rise, walk around the library or take a few breaths of fresh air outside.

    • 2

Exercise. Getting your blood flowing releases chemicals in your body called endorphins that make you feel good. (see refs 1)

    • 3

Stretch or practice yoga while breathing deeply. Stretching your muscles feels good after sitting for long periods of time while studying. Breathing deeply helps the mind relax.

    • 4

Remove unnecessary obligations from your schedule. The most important thing for you is to study. Don't worry about the rest.

    • 5

Eat on a regular schedule. If you plan to be away all day, pack a lunch. Eating regularly helps you maintain your energy levels and stay calm.

    • 6

Trade massages with a friend or significant other. Massages are allow your muscles to relax and your mind to feel peaceful.
