Don't eat a big dinner. There's nothing like eating a big meal that makes you want to drift right to sleep. If you know that you're facing a late night of study and reading, be sure to eat a light dinner. Plan to eat some energy boosting snacks throughout the night instead.
Take a couple of breaks for some exercise. If you are in a safe area and the weather permits, go outside and take a quick jog around the block. If you're not able to go outside, try doing a few push-ups, crunches, jumping jacks or stretches inside. This will help to energize your mind and body.
Change positions often. Try reading and studying while standing up or sit in a hard chair or on the floor. If you're lying down in bed or reclining in a comfortable chair, you'll never make it.
Take a break for a quick, cool shower. There's nothing like cool water to wake up even the sleepiest student. Don't spend a lot of time: Make it quick and efficient.
Keep the temperature cool. Don't allow yourself to get warm and toasty. That's a sure way to fall asleep fast. Turn on the air conditioner if it is warm outside or turn the heat to a minimum if you are studying during the cold months.
