MLA Format for In-Text Citations for Websites

"The Modern Language Association (MLA) Handbook and Style Manual" is used to write papers based on the subjects of humanities and liberal arts. Both provide instructions on how to cite the works of others, including Works Cited pages and in-text citations.
  1. Tying In-Text citation to Works Cited page

    • Type in the text the first name that appears in the Works Cited page that corresponds to the citation (i.e., author name, website name).

    Paragraph/Page Numbers

    • Do not list paragraph numbers or list page numbers based on your web browser.

    Website name

    • List the website name as a signal phrase to direct the reader to the appropriate Works Cited listing. Do not list the URLs in-text.

    URLs

    • Partial URLs are allowed when the name of the website is included. Examples would be WhiteHouse.gov or Today.com.
