MLA Guidelines for Web Citations

The Internet has quickly become one of the go-to resources for students writing research papers and book reports. While not every resource on the Web can be trusted, once you find a reputable source and include its conclusions in your work, you need to cite the source correctly in your bibliography. Most universities prefer you use the Modern Language Association's, or MLA's, preferred citation style.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the author's last name first, with a comma in between and a period at the end.

    • 2

Put quotation marks around the article title, also with a period at the end.

    • 3

Write the website name in italics, followed by a period.

    • 4

Include the organization's name and date of the article, each ending in a period.

    • 5

Write "Web" to indicate the resource is a website and the date you accessed the article.

    • 6

Verify that you have correctly cited the source. Your citation should look like this: Last name, First name. "Title of Article." Website name (italics). Company Name. Date of Article. Web. Date of access.
