Get lots of sleep the night before you plan on not sleeping. If you know an all-nighter is in the cards for Sunday night, make sure you get to bed early on Saturday and sleep as much as possible.
Take an afternoon nap, if you're able, prior to attempting the all-nighter. A nap for one sleep cycle, or 90 minutes to 2 hours, will give your body and mind a welcome break, and you'll be able to concentrate and stay alert with greater ease.
Drink caffeinated drinks throughout the night and into the next day. After an all-nighter, your body will want to sleep. While doing so is the healthiest option, a schedule of classes the next day may prevent you from getting into bed. Drink coffee and energy drinks to stay alert, but remember that some energy drinks have side-effects.
Eat foods throughout the night and during the following day that feed and energize your body. Don't bog down your system with high-fat, high-sugar foods such as cookies and doughnuts. Instead, eat fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts and drink lots of water. Although you need your mind to stay active the next day, you also need your body to be as fresh as possible.
