Follow the guidelines. The self-critical essay has a format with specific questions. Do not attempt a creative approach or skip the questions you find too difficult. Answer each question in a succinct, clear style. Also, brevity is best. Keep your responses at 500 words or less per question. If you can say it in 250 words all the better.
Discuss traveling experiences. A well-rounded candidate has been exposed to a variety of cultures. As a doctor, you need to possess an appreciation for diverse groups.
Describe special interests and hobbies. Include national and local organizations to which you belong. Show your initiative and desire to help others. Discuss your latest project: Maybe it's research for a novel, hang gliding, Victorian literature or a marathon. Interesting candidates are independent-minded and talented thinkers who know their strengths.
Characterize your family. Talk about your parents' education, where they were born and raised and their positive influence in your life. Also include siblings' names and ages with brief comments.
Visualize yourself in 10 years. What field of medicine do you envision yourself in? Explain why and how it might happen. Include education and credentials you plan to acquire to meet your goals.
