Add a photo or clip-art to your handout. If you would like to add a photo, you can either search online for a free stock photo or upload your own. For clip-art, check your document-creating program for available clip-art. If nothing fits your topic, conduct an online search through the program. If that is not an option, a simple Internet search on free clip-art will likely lead you to a website where you will be able to copy and paste the clip-art into your document.
Use creative symbols for bullet points. Most word processing programs have many options, including creating a custom shape. Choose one that either fits with your topic or adds interest to the overall appearance of the handout.
Select a creative font or a combination of fonts throughout your handout. Choose an easily readable, not too distracting font size that is big enough for your audience to read. Most word processing programs have a multitude of fonts to choose from. Be creative and try to tie your fonts to your topic. For instance, if your handout has to do with children, select a font that looks like a child's handwriting. If you are doing a project on the Victorian era, choose a more elaborate font.
Insert a border around the edge of your handout. There are many border options in most word processing programs and there are also a number available online. If you don't find one that you like in the program you are using, do a quick online search for borders. Make sure that your border does not interfere with any of your text.
