How to Cite an Interview in Turabian Style

The Turabian style of formatting citations is based on the Chicago style and uses a footnote and endnote citation format. The footnote is used for in-text citations and an additional reference is included in a bibliography. Some professors also require endnote references, so check before citing interview sources to insure you are citing only what is necessary. Similar to other citation styles, such as MLA or APA, interviews are cited as personal communications. Personal interviews are only cited as footnotes. Published interviews are cited in the note and the bibliography in Turabian style.

Instructions

    • 1

Cite unpublished interviews as a footnote only. Include the name of the person interviews, the interview's author, the medium of the interview and the date of the interview. For example: Penelope Walters, e-mail interview, June 23, 2001.

    • 2

Cite published interviews with the interview's subject, the author of the interview, where the interview was published, and the date of the interview for a footnote. You should also include the word "interview" before the author. For example: Jennifer Lawrence, interview by Marie Stokely, Movie Interviews, Reelz Channel, March 13, 2011.

    • 3

Cite the bibliography notation for a published interview in the same manner as the footnote but put the last name first and don't use the word "interview". For example, Lawrence, Jennifer. Movie Interviews. By Marie Stokely. Reelz Channel, Feb 27, 2011.
