Prepare and study as much and as well as you can for your test well before your exam date. Motivate yourself by keeping a positive outlook on your exam, and study with other hardworking, diligent people who do the same.
Plan your studying time. Studying the night before or the morning of a test not only can tire you when you need the most rest, it is also much more stressful to memorize excessive information on a tight schedule.
Wake up on the day of the test with enough time to get ready and eat in the morning. Waking up five minutes before the test and rushing out the door can add to your stress, and not getting a good breakfast may leave you lethargic.
Think positively when you enter the testing room. Tell yourself that you have studied all that you can and that you are ready to take the exam. Don't think negative thoughts, such as "I'm going to fail," as this usually leads to more anxiety.
Scan all the questions first before you begin the test, as this will give you a sense of the direction of the exam and may help you gain confidence for the harder questions to come. Start with the questions that you feel you are most comfortable with.
Stop for a second and take some deep breaths if you come across a particularly difficult question. Then review the question again, answer as much of it as you can, and move on if you cannot solve the problem or answer the question. Accepting your limitations and mistakes can help keep your anxiety levels at a minimum.
Don't dwell on missed questions or wrong answers after the exam, especially if you have another test coming up. Concentrate your thoughts instead on doing well on your next test.
Take a short nap or get a bite to eat if you studied particularly hard for the last exam and you feel burnt out, even if you have another exam coming up soon.
Review questions or concepts you may have missed when you receive your exam results back, and ask the teacher or professor for help if needed. Reviewing your previous problems will prepare you to answer them quickly, easily and confidently if you see them again in future examinations.
