Suffolk University is a private, nonreligious school in Boston and one of the largest universities in the city. The Communication and Journalism Department at Suffolk University has a storefront high-definition television studio for students located on Tremont Street, near the campus. Broadcast and TV production classes take place in the 660-square-foot studio, which is used by student journalists to produce stories and documentaries related to the Beacon Hill and downtown Boston neighborhoods. The studio has three high-definition digital cameras.
Full-time undergraduate students at Suffolk University paid tuition and fees totaling approximately $15,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year. That same year the school had just over 9,500 full- and part-time students enrolled.
Emerson College in Boston is, as of the 2011 academic year, the only four-year college in the United States focused entirely on the study of communication and the arts. Emerson students have the opportunity to work in a television production classroom that has all the equipment and functionality of a standard television control room and studio. The television production studio doubles as a learning space for students enrolled in video and television production courses. Emerson's television studio is 40 by 28 feet, with soundproof walls and professional cameras, as well as a digital lighting system and other touches that students will encounter in their chosen field.
For the 2010-2011 academic year, Emerson had over 3,400 students enrolled, with an undergraduate, full-time tuition rate of $30,752 per year.
Northeastern University in Boston puts a strong focus on bringing students out of the classroom and into the working world. Northeastern helps students connect with businesses and opportunities around the city and the world. NUTV is the hub of television news production at Northeastern. The student news department produces spots and documentaries on local and campus events as well as breaking news that impacts the school community. The station also features student programming covering a range of fields. Students who are interested in learning about writing for TV, filming on professional equipment, editing and being in front of the camera are welcome to join the station. Students and university filmmakers offer workshops to teach those new to the field the basics of equipment and technique.

Tufts University has campuses in Boston as well as nearby Medford/Somerville and somewhat further west in Grafton. Tufts has its own student run TV studio called TUTV. TUTV operates as a student club under the charter of the Arts, Sciences, and Engineering Department, and supervised by the Experimental College. The station is entirely managed by the student members. Members can use TUTV to produce television and film projects of all genres, and welcomes new members. In the 2009 school year, Tufts enrolled 5,111 undergraduates. The total cost of tuition including options such as university health insurance was just over $52,000 as of the 2010-2011 academic year.
