Carlow University is the first Catholic liberal arts university to open in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1929, the university currently is home to roughly 2,200 students and offers more than 50 academic programs in areas such as humanities, education and social change.

Chatham University is a private coeducational university founded in 1869. Currently home to approximately 2,300 students, the university offers more than 30 majors in areas such as social science, science, humanities and fine arts.

The University of Pittsburgh is located on 132 acres of land near Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Founded in 1787, the university is home to nearly 34,000 students and offers a variety of programs in its 15 undergraduate, graduate and professional schools.
Students of the university can benefit from a student to teacher ratio of 16 to 1 and small classes where more than 60 percent are limited to fewer than 30 students.
