How to Do MLA Format Works Cited for Movies

Many times, movies reflect values that are important to society. They may also serve as powerful references for your college paper. However, before you can reference a character, event or quote from a movie, you must be aware of how to properly attribute the information to the movie director. MLA style guidelines are very strict and your professor will expect you know how to cite the source appropriately on your works cited page.       Type the name of the movie if you are saw the movie in a theater. Underline the title. Abbreviate director as Dir. and follow with the director´s name. Add a period after her name. Type the abbreviation Perfs. for relevant performers in the movie that are associated with your paper. Separate the actors´ names with a comma and end with a period.

      Type the name of the studio or production company. Follow with a comma. Type the year the film was first released. End with a period. For example, "Battle: Los Angeles" would be "Battle: Los Angeles. Dir. Jonathan Liebesman. Perfs. Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez. Columbia Pictures, 2011."

      Begin your DVD or videocassette citation with the title of the movie, director´s name and the names of relevant actors as you would if you were citing a film. Type the year the movie was released. Follow with a period. Type the media format, such as DVD or videocassette. Type the name of the distributor. Add a comma and type the year the DVD was released. Another acceptable MLA format to cite a DVD is to type the name of the distributor after the director, follow with a comma, add the year the movie was released and end with a period.

      Type the author´s last name if you are citing an online video or movie clip. Follow with the title of the movie in quotation marks. Type the date with the day first, the month spelled out and the year. Follow with the format, such as webcast or online video. Type the name of the Internet site. Type the date you accessed the website. End with the URL.
