Training for a CDL at a truck driving school includes both classroom study and on-the-road training. Classroom study focuses on the laws, rules and regulations related to the truck driving profession. You are also given practical lessons in driving and parking the truck in a variety of situations.
Generally, you have to be more than 21 years of age to qualify for company-paid CDL training program. Additional requirements include having a clean driving and criminal record for a period of five years.
You are required to agree to work for the sponsoring company for an agreed-upon time period following graduation. The time period is usually a minimum of a year. This provides you with a guaranteed job upon graduation.
