Dispatcher Training Schools

Along with the pilot of an airplane, the airline dispatcher is integral to the safe journey of a flight, from takeoff to landing. Airline dispatchers must have extensive knowledge in both aviation and meteorology, and must be licensed by the country in which they operate. To learn these important skills, a person must attend an airline dispatcher training school and pass Federal Aviation Administration exams.
  1. Institute of Flight Operations and Dispatch

    • The Institute of Flight Operations and Dispatch (IFOD), which boasts a 100 percent graduation and job placement rate, is located at the American Airlines Training and Conference Center in Fort Worth, Texas. IFOD offers FAA Aircraft Dispatcher license training, and is fully FAA-accredited. Its full-time instructors are licensed airline dispatchers themselves. Among its notable accomplishments are the training of the flight dispatchers who run the FAA's Operations Control Center in Oklahoma City.

    Sheffield School of Aeronautics

    • Sheffield School of Aeronautics, based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was the world's first airline dispatch school. It is able to boast several other "firsts" as well: first school to issue visas to foreign students, first school to offer on-site contract training for the U.S. Air Force, and first school to use simulation devices for dispatch training. Fully FAA-accredited, Sheffield is contacted by several leading airlines directly for graduate lists to hire its airline dispatchers.

Bill Phelp's Airline Ground Schools (AGS)

    • Bill Phelp's Airline Ground Schools (AGS) offers a 13-week course (on-site and distance learning with residency programs) in Florence, Kentucky, for its airline dispatch courses for FAA certification. AGS boasts more than 59,000 graduates over its history. Students need no prior aviation experience, and AGS offers job placement services. AGS is fully FAA-accredited.

    World Airline Dispatcher Schools

    • Located in Fort Worth, Texas, and fully FAA-accredited, World Airline Dispatcher Schools employs experienced airline dispatcher professionals to teach its FAA certification courses, and gives comprehensive final exams to ensure only the highest-quality dispatchers graduate from the school. Both day and evening classes are available, and its courses are monitored by the FAA to ensure adherence to its strict standards.
