Madison Media Institute offers students a 60-week, 62-credit program in recording, music technology and production that also includes courses in music business. Upon completion, students will know how to record and produce a song, from start to finish, using state-of-the-art software and professional equipment.
Courses include certification in Pro Tools software and audio engineering. According to Madison Media Institute, students learn how to mix and edit tracks, work with synthesizers and add Digidesign plug-ins to songs. Students will also enjoy taking classes from industry professionals such as Sean McMahon, whose production credits include Marilyn Manson and Slipknot.
Upon graduation, students will qualify for careers in entry-level recording studio positions.

Berklee College of Music offers a music production and engineering degree with a focus on audio technology, vocal production, advanced mixing and career internships.
Students majoring in music production and engineering must complete 30 course credits from the music production and engineering department, including approved course electives relating to the major. Exemplary courses include production analysis, music production business, mixing techniques, production projects and music production for visual projects.
According to Berklee's course syllabus, students typically augment this major with studies in instrumental music, theory and private instruction. Graduates are equipped to compete for positions in professional music production fields.

The McNally Smith College of Music offers bachelor's and associate's degrees of science in music, science in recording technology and applied science in music with an emphasis on music production. Students may also opt for a diploma in recording engineering.
McNally Smith College focuses on hands-on learning during music production. The college is home to the McKern Studio Complex, which hosts 10 studios and three labs, each with diverse recording gear, musical instruments and software for specific projects. In addition to learning how to record, mix, engineer and produce music in each of these rooms, students will also learn music theory and keyboard skills to supplement their success in becoming a professional, well-rounded producer.
Students will explore various types of music production, including electronic and live music as well as extensive courses in hip hop production. They will also learn music business management and undergo professional mentoring.
