San Francisco Area Culinary Schools

    • The Le Cordon Bleu California Culinary Academy, located just off of U.S. Interstate 80 between the Mission Bay and Potrero neighborhoods, offers programs in Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Restaurant Management and Patisserie and Baking. The Culinary Arts program is an associate's degree program that lasts 15 to 21 months and stresses classic French technique while including modern and international preparations of different menu items. The Hospitality and Restaurant Management program is an associate's degree program that lasts 15 months and teaches both theoretical and practical management approaches. The Patisserie and Baking program is a certificate program that lasts nine months and teaches both basic and advanced techniques.

    Art Institute of California

    • The Art Institute of California, located in the heart of San Francisco between the downtown and SoMa neighborhoods, offers both a diploma and associate's degree program in Baking and Pastry, an associate's degree program in Culinary Arts and a bachelor's degree program in Culinary Management. The five-academic-quarter Baking and Pastry Diploma teaches students the basic skills, while the associate's degree program offers much more knowledge and information during its seven-quarter duration. The seven-quarter Culinary Arts program prepares students with the knowledge to attain entry-level cooking positions. The 12-quarter Culinary Management program provides students with the educational experience for a variety of restaurant and hotel positions.

    Professional Culinary Institute

    • The Professional Culinary Institute is located at the southern end of San Francisco Bay in Campbell, California. It offers diploma programs in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts, a sommelier certification program and an associate's degree program in Hotel and Restaurant Management. The Culinary Arts program lasts six months and teaches all of the basic restaurant skills. The six-month Baking and Pastry Arts program teaches the essential skills for creating breads, desserts and other items. The sommelier certification program lasts 11 weeks and "is the only sommelier training in the world that is approved by the Court of Master Sommeliers and taught only by master sommeliers," according to the school's website. The Hotel and Restaurant Management program lasts 12 months and combines real-world management skills with the culinary arts and wine programs.
