Chippewa Valley Technical College offers associates degrees in liberal arts or science, which are two-year programs that combine some technical training with general education. Associates degrees are often used as an entry to a four-year university.
Technical diploma programs take one or two years and focus specifically on job skills training. Diplomas are available in a wide variety of over 50 careers including accounting, cosmetology, business management, clinical laboratory technician, dental hygienist, farm business, human resources management, landscaping, machining and radiography.
Certificate programs are intensive, short-term programs that train students in specific skill areas in less than a year. They can be used as additional training in a particular field or to qualify the student for a job. Certificate programs are available in areas such as insurance claims specialist, construction management, web development, EMT, childcare licensing and small business accounting.
To apply to Chippewa Valley Technical College, students must first choose the program that best fits their needs. The college provides counseling and advising to those needing assistance in choosing a course of study. The next step is to complete an online application and pay the application fee of $30 as of 2011. Application deadlines are June 30 for fall semester and October 31 for spring semester. Prospective students are required to complete a pre-entry assessment or provide ACT college entrance scores. Some programs may require additional forms.
In addition to the application fee, students are required to pay several other fees as well as tuition. As of 2011, fees include a non-refundable activity fee, billed at 5.5 percent of the tuition for each credit; materials fees, which vary by class; and a health services fee, which covers basic health care services for students registered for six or more credits. Tuition fees in 2011 are estimated at $106 per credit for Wisconsin and Minnesota residents or $159 for out-of-state residents. Financial aid and scholarships are available through Chippewa Valley Technical School's financial aid office. Financial benefits are also available for veterans through the state of Wisconsin as well as the federal government.
