Sound Recording Technology Schools

As of early 2007, sound design and recording has become a program of study at many art institutes and universities over the past 10 to 15 years, as the proliferation of digital recording and editing equipment has expanded.     • The Savannah College of Art and Design is a private university with its main campus in historic downtown Savannah, GA. As of 2010, the student enrollment is over 10,000. A bachelor's degree in Sound Design is available at the college's Savannah campus. Although branch campuses have opened in Atlanta and Hong Kong, they offer a more limited number of majors. Sound Design students have access to the college's recording studio, as well as video production studios and sound stages.

    • The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences has campuses in Tempe and Gilbert, Arizona and prepares students for audio recording and engineering careers. It is a technical school that offers various certifications, as opposed to associate's and master's degrees. Students can receive official certification in industry standard recording programs such as Pro Tools, Logic, and Reason. The school's 42-week Master Recording Program II also includes 12 hours of internship experience, and may be ideal for students who want immediate hands-on experience in recording, mixing, and engineering.
