Full Sail University offers a 20-month Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts. The program utilizes theoretical coursework as well as hands-on training with music technology equipment and recording sessions with music artists to provide a well-rounded education. Graduates of the program are prepared for entry-level employment and generally find work as an assistant engineer while gaining experience for a career as a music producer, mix engineer, studio manager and more. Courses in the program include music theory, recording consoles, audiotronics, vocal production, advanced audio postproduction and digital mastering. Students learn sound editing for film and television, live events and other media field, and they also work on the production of an independent project to create their own music tracks. Applicants to the program must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a letter of recommendation.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Technology at Montana State University introduces students to audio technology in the ever-changing music industry. A variety of equipment is available for students to become proficient in the field. Equipment for introductory students includes a computer lab with Digidesign MBox2 audio interfaces, keyboard synthesizer, JBL speakers and more. The Big Monster Studio is for senior students and has equipment such as monitoring systems, mixing boards, microphones and a variety of software. Students spend a significant amount of program time in hands-on application, but also take courses in film scoring, science of sound, recording, advanced composition and sound design and synthesis. The final course in the program is a senior project where students create a large-scale musical work for public performance.

The University of Colorado-Denver offers a Bachelor of Science with a Recording Arts emphasis accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The program requires the completion of a number of general education courses such as humanities, math and physical sciences, as well as core music courses. Students learn on modern analog and digital equipment including mastering stations, core computer labs, keyboards, synthesizers, microphones and more. Students attend lectures on a regular basis given by professionals in the field of production engineering and live recording. Internships are also available throughout the undergraduate degree and upon completion of the program on a competitive basis.
