Concorde Career College is an accredited college offering a 12-month degree to become a surgical technician. It offers day and evening classes, and both classroom and on-the-job training. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and must get a passing score on the school's entrance assessment test.
Orlando Tech in downtown Orlando has been serving students for 70 years. Students can earn a National Certificate of Surgical Technology through the National Board of Surgical Technicians and Surgical Assisting. Program classes are scheduled between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. During the last nine months of coursework students participate in hospital clinical training. A total of 1,330 hours are needed to graduate from the program, which include class and hospital clinical hours. Students who graduate from Orlando Tech work in area hospitals, outpatients surgery centers and doctor offices. Emphasis is placed on variety of learning activities because the school recognizes that students have different learning styles. Financial aid and career services are offered.
Keiser University is five minutes from downtown Orlando and offers an associate's degree in surgical technology. Students learn about surgical instruments and procedures, anatomy and physiology. Students who enter the program must have a high school diploma or GED and pass the entrance exam. They must pass general education coursework in human anatomy and physiology before beginning classes in the surgical technology major. These classes can be taken at Keiser or credits can be transferred from another college. The school offers financial aid, a career center, computer and medical labs.
