Power Plant Technology Schools

As of February, 2011, the median salary of a power plant technology degree holder is $55,000. Typically, degree holders will pursue careers in nuclear and fossil fuel power plants. However, degree holders have also been employed in facilities that aren't power plants. Most often, power plant technology degrees take less than two years to complete. There are many United States schools that offer degrees in power plant technology. Each school offers different courses and unique experience to students.
  1. Montana State University at Billings

    • The College of Technology at Montana State University in Billings, Montana, offers students Associate of Applied Science degrees in Power Plant Technology. Before students can begin their core classes, they must show proficiency in math and English by transferring credits, completing refresher courses, or scoring high on placement exams. Typically, students take four semesters to complete this degree. While enrolled, they will take courses in computers, power plant technology, business, and various liberal arts fields.

    Bismarck State College

    • Bismarck has been awarding degrees in energy through the National Energy Center of Excellence since the middle 1970's. Students at Bismarck State College have the option of pursuing Associate in Applied Science, a diploma, or a program certificate in Power Plant Technology. Students can take courses in Power Plant Technology online or in person on Bismarck's campus. Students pursuing an Associate's degree should plan for at least four semesters of study.

    The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades

    • The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Pennsylvania offers Associate degrees in Power Plant Technology. Graduates from this program have been employed by a number of various companies including utility companies, power facilities, refineries, and consulting firms. Power Plant Technology courses are anywhere from one to five hours. Students take a variety of courses in areas such as basic electricity, basic power plant theory, turbine technology, and advanced plant supervisor practice.

    Flint Hills Technical College

    • Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia, Kansas, offers courses online and on campus. Students have the option of pursuing a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree or a one-year technical certificate. This college is a member of the Edison Electric Institute, an organization that is comprised of 80 percent of all investor-based utility companies. Students enrolling for this program must be at 18 years old and have a high school diploma or proof of receiving a GED.
