As the flagship university of a six-campus university system in the state of Indiana, Purdue University has a 30-credit master of science (M.S.) and a 90-credit Ph.D. in industrial technology. With the master's program, students can opt for the traditional full-time or weekend schedule, as well as the choice to present a thesis or not. The Ph.D. is for people who wish to get into academia as professors and researchers.
Unlike Purdue, Sam Houston State University only offers a master's degree--specifically, a Master of Arts in Industrial Technology. Consisting of 37 credits, SHSU's industrial technology program is designed to prepare students for managerial positions and includes a six-credit thesis. Courses include Instructional/Production Analysis, History and Philosophy of Industrial Education, Materials Test Technology and Plant Layout and Materials Handling.
Sul Ross State University's bachelor's program is designed for entry-level positions in industrial technology. The curriculum contains 139 credits, with a mixture of courses ranging from drafting and welding to management and photography. The core industrial technology courses include Machine Shop Technology, Organization of Industrial Processing, Studio Photography and Advanced Welding Technology. The pre-requisite classes include subject areas such as math, English, history and political science.
Texas Southern University offers both a bachelor's and a master's degree in industrial technology. The former requires 125 credits for graduation whereas students need 36 credits to complete the latter. Industrial technology courses offered at TSU include Statistical Process Control, Industrial Labor-Management Relations, Quantity Surveying, Community Development Finance and Robotics Technology.
