With its main campus located in Phoenix, Arizona, and eleven other campuses nationwide, the Universal Technical Institute provides training in automotive, motorcycle, diesel, collision repair and Nascar technology. UTI provides industry-specific training for a number of car manufacturers. For instance, students interested in learning to work with Ford vehicless can add a 15-week program to their automotive training in which they will learn the diagnostic equipment and technical resources used specifically to repair Ford vehicles. At the end of this training, students receive appropriate certification from the manufacturer. UTI also offers collision repair training at its Sacramento, California and Houston, Texas locations. Students in the collision repair program learn about welding, frame alignment, custom paint jobs, and electrical and mechanical repair. The institute also boasts a 92 percent job placement rate for students who train to become Nascar technicians.

The Automotive Training Centers in Pennsylvania claims to specialize in technician training for marine and automotive service industries. The center trains students in automotive technology, high performance and diesel engines. The automotive program, for instance, gives students shop and class time to prepare them to work in a variety of fields, such as automotive technician, shop foreman, service consultant, salesperson, automotive technical instructor, insurance investigator and more. Certification programs range from 15 to 20 months.

Houston Community College features a transportation cluster with programs to prepare students to work in the transportation industry. Students can study auto body repair and diesel mechanic repair. In addition, these courses can be taken as continuing education or degree programs. The certificate training program, for instance, requires three semesters and 40 credit hours. Students seeking a degree can obtain an Automotive Technician Associate of Applied Science in two years and 69 credit hours.
