Automotive Glass Installation Schools

Automotive glass installers, also called an automotive glass technicians, specialize in the installation and repair of glass in automotive vehicles. They remove and replace damaged glass such as cracked windshields or broken windows. They put the glass in the vehicle, apply a special substance to the glass edges to prevent moisture and add rubber strips to the edges to keep them secure. Many employers prefer to hire automotive glass installers who have completed formal training programs.

Students learn about terminology, tools, methods and the best current installation practices. The course also provides an intermediate section that includes hands-on training that demonstrates the correct installation methods for automotive glass.

    • Horizon Auto Glass' Windshield Replacement School, based out of Sacramento, California, is a fully functional glass shop that offers a 10-day comprehensive training program for individuals wishing to specialize in windshield replacement. The training includes brief classroom instruction on tools, materials and methods of windshield replacement and business topics, extensive hands-on training and in-shop training. The program provides flexible instruction to meet individual students' needs. Students also work with experienced glass technicians to complete windshield replacements, and they can complete as many during training as they wish. The school also offers refresher courses students can customize.

    • Automotive Glass Consultants (AGU) is an independent company based out of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, that offers auto glass training for individuals and businesses. The programs provide customizable auto glass programs that are up to date with the industry. Programs can easily add or remove topics to create a customized training experience. Examples of training topics include technical procedures, quality control and productivity. The school also offers training programs at three levels of instruction depending on the students' experience. Levels include complete instruction, in-depth instruction and an informational seminar.

    • Auto Glass University (AGU) is an online training program under the auspices of Automotive Glass Consultants with a mission of providing students with self-directed current and unbiased auto glass training. The program's courses contain comprehensive and concise modules relevant to the responsibilities of auto glass professionals. The training focuses on technical aspects, customer service, safety and management. As of 2011, AGU offers auto glass technician training and has expressed the intention to add additional training over time. AGU works with automotive glass consultants to provide individuals with on-site training opportunities.
