The Penn State University’s campus in Wilkes-Barre offers degree programs in surveying for both bachelor’s and associate degree programs. Courses cover all the foundations of surveying including geospatial data management, boundary surveying, image analysis, and use of global positioning systems (GPS) and geographic information systems (GIS). Students are also involved in projects and extensive field training. The associate program can be completed in two years and has a long history of success.

Located in Williamsport, the Pennsylvania College of Technology provides students with courses covering the fundamentals of surveying while preparing them to sit for the Fundamentals of Surveying examination. Course work involves analysis of surveying projects as well as modern approaches to surveying projects such as highway systems, building structures, and site development. Students are also exposed to the latest instrumentation with an emphasis on applying what they have learned to the field.

The Harrisburg Area Community College, located in the state capital of Harrisburg, offers students a program in geospatial engineering. Students will learn geospatial principles and fundamentals in preparation for a career in surveying, including exposure to GPS systems and other technologies that assist professionals in the acquisition, management, and analysis of data. While the entire program is available only in Harrisburg, students can also take core courses in campuses located in Lancaster, Lebanon, and Gettysburg.
