Students also gain more than 768 hours of hands-on professional experience in acute and long-term care, maternal nursing and pediatrics at local area hospitals. An associate degree in allied health technology with a concentration in practical nursing is also offered. Located in a suburban borough about 10 miles north of Philadelphia, the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology offers a comprehensive one-year training program in practical nursing. Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED and pass a pre-entrance test (TEAS) of their English, reading and mathematics skills. This program consists of both theoretical and hands-on instruction in anatomy and physiology, health assessment, laboratory practice, pharmacology, medical-surgical and adult nursing, maternal and child health, communication skills and professional development. An articulation agreement with Montgomery County Community College allows graduates to apply their credential toward an associate degree in nursing.
