The Canadian Valley Technology Center offers a certificate program in welding at two of its campuses: Chickasha and El Reno. Students have the option of specializing in welding pipes, or structural welding, which concerns working on the parts that hold up buildings among other structures. CVTC offers further specialization in structural welding: shielded metal arc welding, or SMAW, which involves welding that uses a flux-coated consumable electrode.
In addition to the common certificate program, Oklahoma Technical College offers a Welding Associates in Occupational Science Degree. The diploma can be completed between 32 to 40 weeks; the associate's degree, in 62 to 70 weeks. Regardless of program format, welding students at OTC can take courses that involve different types of arc welding, named so because it uses a power supply to create an electric arc. Students also receive instruction in oxy-fuel welding, brazing and cutting: processes that involve burning oxygen with gaseous fuel.
Tulsa Technology Center, better known as TulsaTech, eschews the certificate track by offering only an associate degree program. At TulsaTech, students can choose between the Shielded Metal Arc, Gas Metal Arc, Flux Cored Arc, and Gas Tungsten Arc specializations. The courses include subject areas such as oxyacetylene, air carbon arc and plasma arc cutting, non-destructive and destructive testing, blueprint reading and electrode identification.
At the Tulsa Welding School, students have two choices of certificate/diploma programs: the three-and-a-half-week, 16-credit Structural Welder track; and the more extensive seven-month, 30-credit Master Welder. For those who want to go beyond entry-level positions to assume roles as welding quality assurance or quality control inspectors, the 14-month 34-credit associate program is designed specifically for that purpose. TWS Courses include Metal Inert Gas (MIG) & Fluxcore Welding, Basic Metallurgy & Destructive Testing, and Quality Management Techniques.
