Forensic Psychology Grad Schools

The American Board of Forensic Psychology defines forensic psychology as “the application of the science and profession of psychology to questions and issues relating to law and the legal system.” The Chicago School of Professional Psychology describes forensic psychology as “one of the fastest growing areas of psychology.” Forensic psychology prepares students for careers in profiling, correctional facilities, forensic units, jury consultation and police psychology. Schools with graduate studies in forensic psychology offer advanced psychology and legal courses as well as clinical training.
  1. The Chicago School of Professional Psychology

    • The Chicago School of Professional Psychology was founded in 1979 by the Midwestern Psychology Development Foundation. The school is in Chicago, Illinois, but has campuses in Grayslake, Illinois; Los Angeles and Orange counties in California; Washington, D.C. and online, with a student population of almost 2,900. The school offers 17 programs of study, including a Psy.D. in clinical forensic psychology, a Master of Arts in forensic psychology and a certificate in applied forensics. The school provides students the opportunity for hands-on experience at The Chicago School Forensic Center with such programs as treatment for women released from prison, job readiness for released prisoners and work with abusive parents.

    Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology

    • Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology in Boston is a small four-year private not-for-profit school founded in 1974. With a student population of less than 300 and a large city campus setting, it is a leading fully accredited institution in the field of psychology. The master of arts in forensic psychology prepares students to be professional licensed mental health counselors with courses in law, mental health, counseling theory and technique, as well as intensive clinical training.

    California Baptist University

    • California Baptist University in Riverside is a private Christian liberal arts school founded in 1950. The school offers 90 undergraduate and 25 graduate majors, including forensic psychology, taught by Christian faculty. The university with 4,100 students and a 105-acre main campus was named a Best Master’s College in 2010 by U.S. News & World Report. California Baptist University’s School of Behavioral Science offers a master of arts in forensic psychology. Courses include criminal law, victimology, advanced statistics, criminal evidence and forensic evaluation.
