List of MBA Universities Without Work Experience

The master of business administration (MBA) degree is useful for students who want to purse leadership positions in business and government. Most MBA programs require students to have several years of work experience before they are eligible to apply. However, some schools accept applicants without any work experience. If you apply as part of this pool, ensure that every other element of your application is strong. For example, you should have superior GMAT exam scores. Also, be sure to contact your desired campus for information about applying without work experience.
  1. Duke University - Fuqua School of Business

    • Located in North Carolina, Duke University's Fuqua School of Business admits students without work experience. According to the school's website, students attending the daytime program have an average of five years of work experience. However, work experience varies widely. Some students attend the program lacking any work experience. Duke University is a highly competitive, nationally ranked institution. Therefore, even though you may apply if you don't have any work experience, your application will be strengthened if you have several years of experience and scored high on the GMAT entrance exam.

Drexel University - LeBow College of Busiess

    • Drexel University's LeBow College of Business is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Unlike other universities, Drexel does not require its applicants to have work experience to be admitted. According to the school's website, all applications will be reviewed, regardless of the number of years of work experience candidates have. Drexel recommends that every other facet of your application be "exceptionally strong," though. Therefore, make sure that you have a strong GMAT score, essay, and interview and an otherwise strong application. Drexel does consider those applications with more years of experience to be "more competitive" than those without such experience.

    Yale University School of Management

    • Located in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale University's School of Management runs a unique, three-year MBA program called the Silver Scholars Program. The program is aimed at those undergraduate students who wish to matriculate into Yale's MBA program directly out of a bachelor's degree program. Those students considering attending the MBA program through the Silver Scholars Program should be sure to apply early in the process, as the program only admits a "select handful" of college seniors. The first-year curriculum focuses on developing basic skills and mindsets of managers. In the second year, students complete a full-time internship, which allows them to practice the skills they learned in the first year. The internship also increases employment prospects upon graduation. Students complete the third year by taking standard MBA courses.

Willamette University: Atkinson Graduate School of Management

    • Willamette University's Atkinson Graduate School of Management offers a unique program that enrolls students with little to no work experience. The university is located in Portland, Oregon. Students can enroll in the school's Early Career MBA program, which is a full-time, on-campus option. Unlike the Yale program, the Willamette University program takes only 21 months to complete. Students engage in internships, consulting projects, simulations and other activities designed to prepare them for post-graduation work. Among other subjects, students study accounting, finance, global management and marketing.
