Media Graduate Schools

Graduate programs in media address the rapid technological changes in the industry while providing additional career training for students. Several colleges throughout the United States offer a variety of programs for those who wish to work in media, teach courses in the field or hone their creative skills. Some programs include courses in ethics and entrepreneurship in addition to technical subjects.
  1. Philadelphia University

    • Located 15 minutes northwest of Center City, Philadelphia University's School of Design and Engineering (philau.edu) offers a master of science degree in interactive design and media. While students are accepted from various undergraduate backgrounds, the university recommends that prospective students show proficiency in web page design, digital video production and rich media.

    Miami International University of Art and Design

    • The Miami International University of Art and Design (artinstitutes.edu) offers a master of arts degree in design and media management. This degree can be obtained through the university's main campus as well as the Art Institutes of Tampa or Jacksonville. The program's curriculum is designed to teach the business side of art, design and media. Classes are offered in law, policy and ethics in design and media arts; entrepreneurship in design or media; and planning, producing and promoting a media arts venture.

    Elon University

    • Located about 30 minutes east of Greensboro, North Carolina, Elon University (elon.edu) is a private liberal arts college that offers a master of arts degree in interactive media. The program is designed to train students who wish to pursue careers in interactive advertising, television, gaming, blogging and mobile telephoning. Elon accepts about 36 students each year for the 11-course program, which can be completed in 10 months.

    University of Colorado at Boulder

    • The University of Colorado at Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication (journalism.colorado.edu) offers a master of arts degree in mass communication research. This in-depth program allows students to research and evaluate current media structures, communication theory, policies and practices of the media. Students are required to declare an emphasis within three tracks: institutional perspectives on media, cultural perspectives on media, or environmental issues and media. The 33-credit degree program is geared toward students who wish to build upon an undergraduate or professional background in media, or those who intend to teach media-related courses at the college level.
