How to Unprotect the Worksheets in Capstone

Similiar to thesis papers at master's level college work, capstone courses in undergraduate senior seminar classes task students with creating a project that encompass everything they've learned, concerning their major, over the course of their collegiate career. Students in capstone course may be required to write a paper, but may complete some other free-form project as well. Microsoft's Excel worksheets are commonly used by business majors to securely manage financial data. But if you'd like to use a protected Excel worksheet as a template for your capstone project, you'll need to receive permission to modify the worksheet and a password to unprotect it.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain permission from the worksheet's author to edit the worksheet and request the file's password. Excel files can be protected from both opening and modifying. You may need to acquire two passwords.

    • 2

Open the protected Excel file. Enter the document's access password, if prompted. Click on the tab of the protected worksheet.

    • 3

Click on the "Review" tab. Click on the "Unprotect Sheet" button beneath the tab. If multiple worksheets are protected, click on the "Unprotect Workbook" button instead.

    • 4

Type in the worksheet's modify password into the dialog box that pops up, and then click "OK." Select the "Save" option from Excel's "File" heading to save the work
