Colleges That Offer a Master's Degree in Health Care Management

Many working professionals in the health care field look for ways to advance in their careers and many students in the health care field decide to further their education at the graduate level. Pursuing a master’s degree in health care management or administration is one path to an administrative job in this growing field. Many schools offer a variety of master’s degree programs, both online and face-to-face, that assist with these goals.

    • Colorado State University Global Campus offers a Master of Healthcare Administration and Management degree that is completed 100 percent online. Each class lasts eight weeks and most students take one class at a time. This degree requires 36 credits and is anticipated to take about two years to complete. No thesis is required, but a capstone project in organizational leadership must be completed. Admissions requirements are straightforward; all candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Financial aid is available for eligible students.

    Indiana University of Pennsylvania

    • Indiana University of Pennsylvania offers a Master of Science in Health Services Administration. This program is offered in a blended format, with both online and face-to-face classes that meet one night per week. This degree requires 36 credits and takes between 18 months to two years to complete. A thesis is optional and recommended for those students who plan to go forward with doctoral studies. Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree and a 2.6 GPA. Previous coursework in statistics and research is also recommended. Financial aid is available for those students who are eligible.

    • The University of Michigan offers a Master of Health Services Administration. This program is a competency-based, face-to-face program consisting of 60 credits. Most students complete the program in two to three years, and a thesis is a requirement for the degree. Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree, three letters of recommendation, the GRE test, a 3.0 GPA and official transcripts from all schools previously attended. Financial aid and scholarships are available to eligible students.

    Gonzaga University

    • Gonzaga University offers a Masters of Business Administration in Healthcare Management. This is a hybrid program designed for professionals in the field, with each course being held half-online and half face-to-face. Most classes meet in person at least twice during each term. Instead of a thesis, this program requires a final project relevant to the desired occupation. Because many students take classes part-time to fit in with their work schedules, the program can take two to four years to complete. Admission requirements include a bachelor’s degree, two years of professional experience in the health care field, the GMAT exam and a 3.0 GPA. Financial aid is available for eligible students.
