Verify that this part-time MBA program meets your educational and scheduling requirements. Too many times a person will enroll in a program and then they realize that due their time constraints or educational requirements the program was a mistake. If you thoroughly investigate the specific classes offered and the time each class will take beforehand, it can save you significant anguish later on.
Visit the business school with a program counselor prior to enrollment. Ask them specific questions about the time requirements and the likely class offerings in future. The school brochures often paint too rosy a picture than what it actually takes to complete the MBA program.
Talk to current students in the part-time MBA program. As you visit the school, walk around and ask any students if they are currently in the program. If you find some, then inquire about their experiences in the program. There is no substitute for firsthand experience, which these students have. If they give good reviews, also ask them about which teachers to seek out when you enroll for classes.
Ask the personnel department at your current place of employment if they offer any assistance for secondary education. Some companies offer tuition assistance or support groups that consist of other employees enrolled in the program.
Tell your immediate supervisor about your intention to enroll in the part-time MBA program. If they find out later that your work suffered because of this commitment, it may result in disciplinary action. So make sure the boss knows about the program before you ever enroll.
Start with a light course load in the first semester. Then, increase the hours if you feel that you can handle the academic workload.
Make as many friends as you can in each class. That way if you have to miss a class for any reason you can get the assignment or notes from these friends.
Meet and get to know each one of your class professors. That way they know your face and will be more likely to show leniency for any missed assignments.
