How to Get a Second MBA

A Master of Business Administration -- generally referred to an MBA -- is a degree that opens doors for you. Deciding to get a second MBA can happen for a variety of reasons. Once you were out in the workforce, perhaps you discovered your interest or focus had changed and you wanted to pursue a new line of study. For others, it could be that they finished their MBA degrees twenty years ago and now want to update their credentials. No matter what the reason is that you want a second MBA, there are steps to follow to get one.

Instructions

    • 1

Do some background research. Determine where you want to study and find out the deadline for applications to the MBA program at that particular university. Ask if the university where you are applying if they want you to take the GMAT, or if your existing results from your first MBA are acceptable.

    • 2

Make a list of what the university wants you to provide. Some institutions do not allow you to do a second MBA, so be sure to check before applying. Most institutions will require you to fill out an application available online. You likely will also need a statement of purpose, a current resume and two letters of recommendation.

    • 3

Set a "graduate by" date after you are accepted into the MBA program and begin working on your program. Review the course materials and mark when assignments are due in your day planner. Keep track of how many hours a day you actually work on your MBA. If you start falling behind with your assignments, increase the amount of time your spend working on your studies.

    • 4

Make friends with other students in your classes and form a study group. People sharing the same experience tend to bond and support each other.

    • 5

Promise yourself a reward when you finish your second MBA. Think of the car you are going to buy or the vacation you are going to take when you have your degree.
