Obtain a bachelor's degree. A bachelor's degree in any business, commerce, finance or economics- based discipline will provide a good background for MBA applications.
Get a job and obtain some work experience. MBA programs may look not just at initial education, but also at real-world job experience when deciding whom to admit to the program. Most MBA programs will give precedence to admitting those with job experience, and someone with an MBA but no job experience could face difficulties in the job market. Job experience is usually recommended before starting an MBA program.
Research prospective schools. You might look for schools in your area, schools with a prestigious reputation or schools with well-known and successful alumni. Make a list of several schools that you would be interested in attending.
Take the GMAT. Top MBA programs are likely to consider both your GPA from college and your GMAT scores.
Apply to your top several schools. You may not get into your top choice so it is always good to apply to some other schools as well. Be sure to read the application package thoroughly and to follow all the directions.
Complete the required classes. MBAs usually take one to two years to complete, but there may be longer options available for those who choose to keep working while they earn their degree. Although you will have certain prerequisite classes required by the school, you may also be able to direct your studies to an area of interest, such as accounting, management or marketing.
