Top Colleges for Conservatives

According to a March 29, 2005, story in the Washington Post, a study by political scientists from George Mason University, Smith College and the University of Toronto found 72 percent of the teachers at America's institutions of higher learning to be self-described liberals. Only 15 percent considered themselves to be conservative. Fortunately, the Young America's Foundation has issued its 2007-2008 list of Top Ten Conservative Colleges to help steer America's young conservatives to institutions more in keeping with their worldviews.

    • Nestled in the hills of rural Southern California, Thomas Aquinas College is a small Catholic institution offering a unique student life based on Catholic morality, teaching and tradition. The curriculum at Thomas Aquinas is comprised solely of the "great books" of history, including books on math, history and science as well as language, philosophy and theology. Catholic faculty members, who each make a profession of faith at the beginning of their terms in office, act less as lecturers and more like Socratic-style facilitators, encouraging education through discussion.
