Trinity College is the top-ranked university in the Irish Republic according to the Times survey. Provost John Hegarty, Ph.D, says that Trinity is the only Irish university to rank in the world's top 50, and emphasizes the college's location at the very center of Ireland's capital city. Trinity stands on a 47-acre site, and students have access to state-of-the-art libraries, computer facilities, laboratories and a modern sports center. It offers a wide range of courses in areas as diverse as art and humanities, engineering and medicine. The Times survey found that Trinity had the highest entry standards of any Irish university, and that 82 percent of students complete their program. (See references 1 and 2)

The Times survey ranked University College Dublin, or U.C.D., second in Ireland. Based at the Belfield campus, four kilometers south of Dublin city center, this large university is organized into five colleges, or faculties, including Arts and Celtic Studies, Business and Law and Health Sciences. It lists five Irish Prime Ministers among its alumni.
