Wesleyan University, a private liberal arts college, was founded in 1831. As of 2009, the college had about 2,800 undergraduates and 200 graduate students. Undergraduates work toward bachelor of art and bachelor of science degrees within 40 different academic departments. Wesleyan students can also participate in the 12-college exchange program and take classes for a semester at one of the other 11 participating colleges, including Dartmouth College and Wellesley College.
Wesleyan University also offers selected graduate programs in music and a variety of math and science fields. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked Wesleyan University 13th among the nation's liberal arts colleges.

Trinity College is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1823. As of 2009, the school had about 2,200 undergraduates studying within 38 different majors. Students can also complete interdisciplinary minors. All first-year students at Trinity take first-year seminars and receive advising from faculty and peer mentors.
Trinity College also offers selected part-time graduate programs in the evenings for working adults. Trinity College tied for 36th in 2010 "U.S. News & World Report" ranking of liberal arts colleges.

Connecticut College is a private liberal arts college that was founded as an all-female college in 1911. The school began to admit men in 1969. Connecticut College's 1,900 students choose from among 47 academic majors. The college also offers pre-professional programs in law, business and medicine. Students can also complete specialized certificate programs to complement their academic majors.
Connecticut College also offers selected graduate programs, including a master's degree program in psychology. In 2010, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked Connecticut College 42nd among the nation's liberal arts colleges.
