How to Apply for CLEP Exams

CLEP is the College Level Exam Program. This program allows students enrolled in either high school or college to prove their proficiency in a specific academic area. Provided the student does well on the test, she will not be required to enroll in that particular college course. Instead, the university the student attends will award her credit for the course as if she had enrolled and passed. Each student wishing to "CLEP out" of a course is responsible for applying for the exams and ensuring that the necessary transcripts are delivered to his college.

Make sure that your college or university accepts CLEP credits. Most do, but there are still some schools that do not recognize CLEP transcripts as sufficient evidence of subject proficiency. Whether or not your school accepts CLEP exam results should be listed in your student catalog.
