Chiropractors manipulate the spine and treat other health problems of the musculoskeletal system. The mean salary for chiropractors in 2009 was $94,454, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. Chiropractors must meet their states' examination and educational requirements to be licensed. The best Ph.D. chiropractic programs are those accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, which is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The five-year chiropractic program actually is the only program that requires a bachelor's degree for admission, according to the school. In addition, about 95 percent of the school's alumni continue to practice in the field. The school has offered chiropractic education since 1906.

    New York Chiropractic College

    • The Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena aims to prepare students to diagnose and evaluate health ailments based on evidence and is recognized as one of the top programs in the United States, according to the school. The college strongly focuses on science, offering courses such as spinal anatomy, palpation, human biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, nutrition and even dermatology. About 90 percent of alumni owned their own practices or landed jobs at other practices within a year of graduating. The program runs 10 trimesters and includes internships, preceptorships and athletics rotations. The college was founded in 1908 and is the fourth oldest chiropractic college in the nation.
